How to Teach Plus Size Yoga
Do you have students in your classes who would benefit from adaptations for larger bodies?
Do you want to be more welcoming to larger students in the classes you currently teach? Or, do you want to offer classes tailored specifically to larger bodies?
Join Elizabeth for a workshop on teaching yoga to larger bodies. We will explore how to teach classes that are inclusive of this demographic which often feels uncomfortable in fitness classes of all types. This will be an experiential workshop where we explore adaptations to make poses more accessible. We will also touch on some of the expectations a larger student may have walking into your class. This isn't a workshop on weight loss. It’s a workshop on how to meet students where they are and to join them on a path toward body acceptance.
In this workshop you will:
- Learn to see and assess each student’s individual needs
- Learn innovative adaptations to make poses fit larger bodies
- Explore what it is like to be a larger beginner student
- Learn ways to help a larger student feel accepted in your class
- Understand how larger students progress in their yoga practice and move into more difficult poses
- Find the balance between adapting poses and letting the student enjoy the practice they have today
- Learn marketing suggestions for plus size classes
Everyone attending will receive a handout “How to Teach Plus Size Yoga”, which includes photos of the adaptations included in the workshop.
