This class is taught by:

Maria Luisa Basualdo

Maria started practicing yoga as a teenager and comes from a family of Iyengar yoga teachers. A certified Iyengar teacher since 2000, she has over two decades of teaching experience. Her classes range from vigorous to restorative, and she enjoys working with all levels. Maria has studied with senior Iyengar teachers in the US and Argentina and has traveled several times to Pune, India, to study directly from the Iyengar family. Her primary teacher is Senior I.C.Y.T Lois Steinberg with whom she continues to grow as both a practitioner and a teacher.

Marinda Stopforth

Marinda Stopforth, 500 CYT, is a graduate of Prairie Yoga and has been teaching at the studio since 2009. Marinda is a life-long student of yoga and has studied with Gabriel Halpern, Tias Little, Aadil Palkhivala, Kathleen Wright and is inspired by the teaching of Ramanand Patel. Her teaching style presents the wisdom of the "mind-heart-body" connection and offers students a deeper understanding of anatomy and alignment. She continues to explore the application of yoga as a therapeutic tool and teaches courses in both basic and advance anatomy for yogis (teacher training certification requirements). Marinda is a faculty member for Prairie Yoga's Advanced Teacher Training Program. As a CE provider through Yoga Alliance, Marinda enjoys teaching workshops on the topics of adjustments, sequencing and the use of yoga props, like the chair and the rope wall. She is certified in aromatherapy, reflexology and is a Reiki Master Teacher. She is a residential trainer in the study of consciousness for The Monroe Institute in VA, with her husband, Bob, and is a certified 1:1 Provider for the Institute of HartMath, CA.
Marinda shares her life with her husband and two Rottweilers, Bismarck and Chloe. She welcomes yoga students of all levels with enthusiasm and holds the seat of the teacher with gratitude.
Her motto: "When One person teaches, Two people learn."

Sharon Carter

Sharon Carter, Intermediate Junior 1 certified Iyengar teacher, began practicing yoga in 1997 to remedy chronic back and neck pain due to postural misalignment and sports related injuries. After considerable improvement, she realized that the key to health and well being lay in the regular practice of yoga. Since 1999, Sharon devoted countless hours studying with senior teachers to learn the methods of B.K.S. Iyengar and to share this knowledge with the yoga community. She is grateful to her main teachers Lois Steinberg and Chris Saudek as well as Patricia Walden, Manuso Manos, John Schumacher, Laurie Blakeney and Kathleen Wright. Sharon has an M.B.A. In Management, is married and a mom to 3 grown kids.

Michael Taylor

J. Michael Taylor is a certified Iyengar teacher and has practiced yoga since 1987. Having played sports all his life, yoga helped him develop flexibility and heal his injuries. He is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable yoga teachers in the western suburbs. He started apprenticing with Gabriel Halpern at Yoga Circle, Chicago in 1989 and began teaching soon after. He has studied for many years with Senior Iyengar teachers, Lois Steinberg and Laurie Blakeney. His teaching places a strong emphasis on alignment and the use of props to facilitate learning. Michael’s great sense of humor keeps his students laughing. Yoga gives him the energy to teach photography at College of DuPage and play music, dance, and enjoy life to the fullest.
This class is ideal for students new to yoga,or new to the Iyengar method, as well as experienced students that want to establish strong, healthy alignment. You will learn basic movement principles so that you can perform standing poses, twists, inversions, light backbends and forward bends with intelligence and ease. If you ever found yourself wondering "what am I supposed to be doing in this pose" this class is for you. You will receive plenty of assistance and correction. This class is actively paced and progressively sequenced.
